This was the badge of John Slaughter, the most famous Sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona from 1887 to 1891. This one time Texas Ranger's San Bernardino ranch of 1000 acres stretched from Arizona to Old Mexico. Burt Alvord was Slaughter's deputy for some time. Slaughter only stood about 5'4", but Slaughter's way" was to give outlaws 24 hours "to git" or he killed them on the spot. He had a sixth sense that always warned him of danger. It never failed him. He once told his wife that he knew that no man could ever kill him. He was sheriff about five years after the Earp-cowboy feud. Wyatt Earp took credit for, cleaning up Cochise County." Slaughter really did it. He died of old age at 81.

Double die struck solid copper with antique silver finish and a soldered pin back.
